Recently, I have observed that the President of the Republic of Malawi, Dr Bingu wa Mutharika is visiting different institutions (hospitals, secondary schools etc) in the country. A few days ago, he visited Luchenza and Thyolo Secondary Schools. As minister of education, this is good for him as it gives him a chance to take note of the problems which these schools are facing.
Some few months ago, I lamented about the sorry state of Rumphi Secondary School (RUSESCHO), an institution where I spent four years of studies back in the 90’s. My friend Victor Kaonga also wrote about this problem on his blog and on Nyasatimes. Victor even went a step further by sharing the photos depicting the dilapidation of the school. In light of these developments, I would like to ask His Excellency, Dr Bingu wa Mutharika to consider visiting Rumphi Secondary School in his upcoming programmes. If he cannot make it because he is generally a very busy person, he can delegate this task to the Deputy Minister of Education, Hon. Olive Masanza or even the Minister of Finance, Hon. Goodal Gondwe. The President or any minister unto whom he will delegate this task will be able to see the hardships that students face at this institution and I hope that the government will come up with a proper solution to this problem.
The Headmistress, the school committee, the students, the thembas (Traditional Authorities) and all the people of Rumphi District will be highly honored if the redevelopment of Rumphi Secondary School can be included in the upcoming budget.
