The month of June starts with some very bad news. A few minutes ago, the Entrecard team sent me the following email:
Greetings,
Unfortunately, there has been an electrical fire at the data center housing Entrecard’s servers. The servers have not been damaged, but the site may be down for as long as 12 hours.
Entrecard is hosted with ThePlanet, and this fire has effected over 9000 websites, as many of the world’s most popualar websites are hosted with ThePlanet. They are working around the clock to get their data center back online, and we are hoping that they get it back online fast.
Thank you for your pateince and understanding with this rare and frustrating problem. Unfortunately, there is absolutely nothing we can do but wait for The Planet to get their datacenter back online.
Please check back with Entrecard in 12 to 24 hours. Thanks,
Entrecard Team
I have also found out that Statcounter is down. Is it because of the same problem? Can someone, in the know, share with us the names of the sites that have been affected by this problem?
UPDATE
Statcounter is up now. They have confirmed that several of their servers are down and service is limited because of an outage at The Planet. They further advise that some stats will be lost during this time.

That’s crazy because we just had a server file at my work and we lost all printing capabilities. Didn’t know that the printers are hooked up almost across the country.

Folks, it looks like they fixed the problem within 24 hours. My Statcounter account is up.All my data is safe.

that’s why it’s important to back up your blog database. always

oh bad news
is there any loss of data?

Every time i read things like this i can’t help to remember what will happen to us, people who main activity and income sources is the internet.
Did you though for once how you can survive and be useful in a post nuclear conflict world, or a world downgraded because of resource depletion ?
This scare me a lot because, if i think deeper, i realize that i don’t know to do anything in non virtual world.

Agree with Enache V, when the electrical down, all of technology things become useless.

Good job the servers are ok, I know some big sites and businesses have all their data on those. If they were destroyed it would have been a major financial loss to the companies and a loss to the consumer.

Yes, and at the worst time. I seriously doubt a company could recover from that kind of loss, another factor in that is the downtime needed to rebuild everything. That would certainly cause the loss of even more customers!

Heavy reliance on something is bad, but its ok as long as you have backups, which they did. So the only issue was a slight inconvenient wait.

Backup should be the standard for any IT related company. These days nearly all businesses make use of a computer in someway, and backup should never be overlooked.
