It appears Google chose to wind up the year 2008 with a Toolbar PageRank update. After seeing many sites reporting changes in their Toolbar PageRank, I decided to check site’s PR. I am glad to report that this blog has moved from PR3 to PR4. This is a great achievement especially when you consider the fact that this domain is just one year old.
As I was migrating my blog from Google blogger, I lost all my PR such that I began the year 2008 with PR0. It’s great to begin the year 2009 with PR4.
Two years ago, I used to think that Toolbar PR is not important as long as your posts rank well in search engines. But with time, I have discovered that Toolbar PR is important. Traffic issues aside, blogs/sites with high PR are considered to be more credible by many people.
Fellow webmasters and bloggers, I would like to know how your sites have fared in this PageRank update. Feel free to share your New Year resolutions as well.

Hi Clement!
Congrats for the successfull PR update of your blog. Some of my blogs got up too, some down.
Niche blogs especially in languages that are not English are a lot more difficult to promote than English ones. Well I guess I take that as an excuse, because I kind of neglected my German Blogs in not posting enough this last year. Well it’s more inspiring to write for an international readership and to get more responses from all around.
At PR update time it’s also interesting to take a look at the PRs of the social profiles. For example this time I was (am) happy at the rise of my profile at lifestream.fm where I haven’t actually done much but just fed my feeds into.
When people look ones name up in the search engines they also come to these profiles and from there to ones content.
All in all I’m happy with this update. So … best wishes!

Hi Randy if that question was aimed at me, I’d say I didn’t have much idea about Page Rank. Read a few blog posts about it but don’t have any startegy even now to increase it.
I guess what helped me is commenting on all blogs which commented on mine. Also I like collecting links which made the outbound link count on my blog go really high. I have been exporting those links to Delicious under different tags/categories and then providing a link to that Delicious category.
I downloaded the White Paper on Google Page Rank by Ian Rogers after discovering my blog had a Page Rank and found it very useful in understanding what are the fundamentals behind Page Rank and how it works.

On the Page Rank issue, try to get as many other High Page Rank Links putting to your site so that you are seen as an authority expert in your niche area.
For example, try getting PR5 links and above if you possibly can.
Try to get links that are related to your subject matter also helps.
When putting a link on a blog, make sure that you always include the www part of the URL address, like this:
http://www.TheMoneyForum.org
Try to use some of your keywords within your blog comments, for example, in my case, ‘make money online’ or ‘online income’.
Try to use keywords that have a high number of search volumes per month, anything over 500 is ok, preferably though in the thousands whilst also using keywords that have as low as possible, a competing number of websites vying to use that keyword / long tailed keyword of choice.
To search your keywords, go to Google and type in to the search box, Google Keyword Tool.
Click on the first link on page one when it appears in the results.
On the next page type in your keyword of choice, for example: Making Money
Then fill in the captcha code / word just below, then click on: Get Keyword Ideas
Do not adjust any other settings on the above page.
On the results page, scroll down the list. You will see on the left hand side a whole bunch of keywords in a column. Next to that, just to the right will be a box showing the Advertiser Competition, next to that will be a number and next to that again, another number. This is the monthly and average search volume of people typing that keyword / long tailed keyword into Google.
So, you find one that has for example, over 500 searches per month ok.
Now, go to File, click on New Tab, go to Google.com and type that keyword into the search box inside “inverted commas” and click submit.
When the results show, look to the right near the top of the page where it says that it took x seconds, amount of time to deliver the data, ignore that. Alongside that will be a figure, for example 180,000 (it’s often in the millions for very strong keywords).
So, you want to find at the Google Keywords Tool website higher than 500 searches per month for any one keyword / long tailed keyword (two words or more) and a competing number of websites using that keyword of less than 200,000
Depending on how good you are at SEO, you might want to only consider competing for keyword/s of less than 50,000 – The 200k figure given above is the highest you want to go for on average.
With practice, you can find all of this out in just a few seconds. There are other tools online too, which can assist you with this.
If you want more even more traffic, consider setting up minisites to complement your main website or blog. Each minisite will have 4 keywords, these act like satellite sites to your mainsite and they will give you a much greater scope online to use many keywords that your main site does not use. I personally have about 20 or so satellite minisites for each of my main websites or blogs.
The point is, is that the satellite minisites all stand a very good chance of getting into that number one position on their own merit, for the 4 keywords used on each one. The content on each minisite will have a link to my main site placed upon it in a very obvious location.
This acts as a funnel, directing the traffic to my main blog or website.
It’s referred to as funnel marketing, try it out for yourselves, it really does work very well indeed and can only help to increase your page rank on your blog or main site adopting this strategy.
Each minisite will have it’s own unique content based on the 4 keywords being targeted, related to my main blog. Each satellite takes me no more than 60 seconds from start to finish to completely set in motion from the start of the design to it’s launch online, for 9 full pages. Yes, you did read that right. The content is all outsourced, I just copy and paste the content in, make a couple of changes to the config code etc etc, employ the use of RSS aggregators on each Wordpress based satellite blog theme and Bob’s your uncle.
I hope some of these tips prove to be useful to onee or two of you.
Kindest regards and best wishes!

@trebinje leotar: There is one thing that I do not understand about PR. They tel us that PR will increase if you get “dofollow” links from high PR sites, right? And with time, the number of links that you acquire increase naturally. Therefore, PR should always be increasing. It surprises me to see PR drops. Is it because of paid links?
[Reply]
I keep hearing that PR doesn’t really matter any more for search engine results (or at least much less than it used to).
@trebinje leotar – it looks like this happened to you. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

@Black Jack: Do not be deceived. PR matters especially if you want to make it big in the e-economy. I recall there was a huge outcry towards the end of 2007 when Google penalized many sites which were selling links.

I do not know if Google updates the pagerank, but I already has over 1 years with a PR4, every time Google does not put it more difficult to attract visitors to our site, Google wants all the web traffic for them, is not just be left to compete and I am trying to get by with Google Adsense.Pero really earn a pittance if you have it 5 to attract more visitors.
Greetings.

Hey,
Now after 3 months from 31st Dec 08, Google finally update my site’s PR as on 2nd April 09.
@@
[Reply]
On the eve of April fools day Google updated the toolbar page rank again on 1st April 2009. This time they filtered more back links. Previously i have around 70 now i have less back links for my site. However site rank well on all top keywords. It seems google backlinks scheme updated too. It still loves article links as i did for my site. I implemented news section and rss feeds on the site which rocks well and may be the reason of ranking my all keywords.

My pagerank is 3.
Do you know how often they update it?

Google updates 4 times in a year. Some time it takes 100 days and some within 70.

@Glenn Torres: Keep writing good stuff. Of course commenting on dofollow blogs is good. But if your blog has good stuff, people from high ranking blogs and sites will prop you up without you jumping from site to site, leaving comments. Your PR will grow as you continue to collect back links from sites within your niche.
