i used to work for a telecommunications network, and just like m-pesa, the company offers a mobile money transfer service… working there, i see first hand how it’s such a big help for people who can’t afford to obtain a bank account, what makes it great is it’s very fast and convenient… people can send money to their loved ones as fast as sending an sms msg… hope malawi gets to enjoy this service the soonest time possible..

@Clement: Safaricom has done an impressive job in Kenya, I have seen multiple people online who struggle with paypal or online payment systems but they are at home with mobile payments. In other countries mobile money is just starting to take off. It’s not a surprise though because Kenya and many other developing countries had a large population that doesn’t have bank accounts but they have mobile phones.

@Vincent: Yes, I remember hearing about Pay265 and E-wallet. But I did not find out how they were doing their business. Why are they quiet now?

This is a great idea. Some guys started something like this in Malawi sometime back they were calling it Pay265 or E-wallet. I don’t know if they are still doing it. Felix Njawala the newly elected MP was behind this.
