The Meraka Institute in Pretoria, South Africa has yet again advertised a number of bursary, studentship, internship and post-doctoral vacancies. Although preference is usually given to South African citizens and permanent residents, I have observed that there is an increasing number of students, interns and post-doctoral researchers from across the African continent and even beyond.
Two years ago, I spent a good 7 months in the Wireless Africa research group at the Meraka Institute as a predoctoral researcher. The Institute offers an exciting environment for ICT research. The equipment is world class. The people are very nice. The money is also very good. You can enjoy your research without finance related worries. I, therefore, would like to encourage those who are aspiring to further their studies or careers in ICT to apply for these opportunities. The application deadline is 13 September, 2009.
