I would like to share some job opportunities from back home. The Chancellor College Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Center is inviting applications from interested persons to fill the following vacant posts:

1. SYSTEMS ENGINEER  (ONE POSITION)

The Systems Engineer will lead the development of new and innovative software. This is a senior position in the Software Development section of the ICT Center. A young and dedicated individual with a sincere passion for technology, who will grow with the ICT Center, is needed for this post.

Qualifications: The minimum qualification required for this post is a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or its equivalent from a recognized academic institution.

Personal Profile

  • Must have a good understanding of php, css, ajax and mysql.
  • An intelligent individual who is a very fast learner and can quickly grasp complicated concepts.
  • Ability to reverse engineer software.
  • Proven ability of developing aesthetic yet functional front end graphical user interface design.
  • A systems security conscious individual.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build a very good relationship with all members of the ICT Center and its stakeholders.
  • At most four years experience.

Responsibilities

  • Full life cycle software development.
  • Plan and manage software development projects.
  • Support, maintain and document software systems.
  • Manage the teams allocated to your projects.
  • Maintain standards compliance.
  • Make presentations to customers, client audiences and professional peers.
  • Train users, clients and peers.

2. TECHNOLOGY ASSOCIATES (TWO POSITIONS)

The Technology Associates will work across all sections of the ICT Center, ranging from systems administration, network implementation to software engineering. The Technology Associates will be allocated to a variety of projects where by they shall be able to develop a wide range of skills before they finally decide on the area they want to specialize in. Young individuals who want to pursue a serious and fruitful career in the ICT sector are needed for this post.

Qualifications: The minimum qualification required for this post is a Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology or its equivalent from a recognized academic institution. If you have recently acquired or will soon be graduating with Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or its equivalent from a recognized academic institution, you are encouraged to apply as this will be the ideal post to start a career in the ICT sector.

Personal Profile

  • Must have a good theoretical understanding of operating systems, networking and software engineering.
  • Should be a very fast learner with the ability to undertake self study and research to produce concise and comprehensive technical reports.
  • Should be innovative and very hard working.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build a very good relationship with all members of the ICT Center and its stakeholders.
  • At most two years experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the systems administration team to build and configure servers.
  • Work with the network team to implement a variety of networks.
  • Work with the software engineering team to assist with developing systems, testing the systems, deploying the systems and facilitate data entry.
  • Assist with all documentation activities.
  • Manage the client support desk where you shall diagnose and fix a wide variety of problems.
  • Maintain standards compliance.
  • Make presentations to customers, client audiences and professional peers.
  • Train users, clients and peers.

3. ICT TECHNICIANS (6 POSITIONS)

The ICT Technicians will mainly work in the Chancellor College Internet Cafe, which will be manged by the ICT Center.

Qualifications: The qualification required for this post is a Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology or its equivalent from a recognized academic institution. Those with professional certifications in networking, Microsoft products or Linux/Unix will have an added advantage.

Personal Profile

  • Must have a good understanding of operating systems and networking.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office or Open Office.
  • Must be an honest individual with sober habits.
  • Must be willing to learn and capable of quickly adapting to new technologies and business processes.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Must have the ability to continue servicing clients even when there is a partial technology failure.
  • Must have some basic accounting skills.
  • Experience as an IT Technician or Customer Help role will be a distinct advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Work in the Internet Cafe allocating terminals and collecting payments from customers with the support of the Cafe Management software.
  • Maintain the network and the computer systems under the supervision of senior ICT Centre staff.
  • Ensure that the software on all the systems is always updated.
  • Clean the computer systems regularly.
  • Balance the payments collected with respect to the Cafe Management software logs.
  • Assist with all documentation activities.
  • Maintain standards compliance.
  • Train users, clients and peers
