Two days ago, I wrote about Essiac tea, the famous natural cancer fighter, which was promoted by Rene Caisse, a Canadian nurse. For more than 50 years, Rene was using this tea to heal many cancer patients. In that post, I strongly encouraged all people who are fighting against cancer to incorporate this inexpensive tea in their protocol.

While the regulation bodies have not approved Essiac tea as a cancer treatment, there are many  promising firsthand accounts of Essiac tea’s abilities.  In this post, I will describe the four ingredients of Essiac tea to give you some knowledge of what goes into this tea. These ingredients are burdock root, sheep sorrel, slippery elm, and turkey rhubarb and they can be described as follows:

  1. Burdock root: Burdock root, also known as  actium lappa, is a common weed throughout Europe, Asia and North America. It contains anthraquinone, a chemical that may help slow down tumor growth and inhibit possible cancer-causing cellular mutation. Other studies discovered that burdock root extract has apoptotic effects on cancerous cells, allowing it to stimulate cell death in malignant cells. It is also considered one of the best natural blood and liver cleansers; it contains many important nutrients and vitamins such as calcium, amino acids, potassium, calcium, vitamin B complex, vitamin A, vitamin P, and vitamin E.
  2. Sheep sorrel: Also known as Rumex acetosells, it belongs to the buckwheat family. This antioxidant-rich herb has anti-proliferative effects against cancerous cells, implying that it can prevent the replication and metastasis of cancerous growths. Apart from these cancer fighting properties, sheep sorrel also helps to keep the body healthy through other cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation. It can also help to generally improve cardiovascular health, as well as detoxifying the body, helping blood coagulation, providing the body with antioxidants, high vitamin C content and many others. It has also been a well known cancer fighter for thousands of years.
  3. Slippery elm: Also known as Ulmus rubra, it has been used by the Native Americans throughout history for the healing boils, skin inflammation, burns, and ejection of impurities throughout the body. The plant sterols, tannins and essential fatty acids in slippery elm help in reducing inflammation, while mucilage and calcium oxilate help detoxify the body. When combined with the other components of essiac tea, slippery elm is able to protect the organs from the effects of mainstream cancer treatments while simultaneously supporting the immune system.
  4. Turkey Rhubarb: Also known as Rheum palmatum, it is predominantly found in to China, where throughout history, it has been used as a remedy for many different ailments. It has even been accounted as gifts and medicine for different Chinese emperors. It has also been found that it helped reduce negative markers found in the blood of patients suffering from terminal kidney failure.

Combined together, these four ingredients in Essiac tea provide anti-0xidant and anti-cancer effects, as well as anti-inflammatory properties. They strengthen the immune systems as well detoxify the body.
